Lion and Mouse Moral Story
The forest was quiet on a warm afternoon.
Under the shade of a large tree, a lion was fast asleep. He had spent the morning searching for food and was enjoying a peaceful rest.
Nearby, a little mouse was busy exploring.
The mouse ran through the grass, climbed over small roots, and chased a dry leaf that was blowing in the wind. Without realizing it, he wandered closer and closer to the sleeping lion.
Then, in a moment of excitement, the mouse climbed onto the lion’s back.
He scampered across the lion’s mane.
Suddenly, the lion woke up.
With a loud roar, he lifted his paw and caught the frightened mouse.
“Who woke me?” the lion growled.
The mouse froze.
“I am sorry!” he squeaked. “I didn’t mean to disturb you. Please let me go.”
The lion looked at the tiny creature beneath his paw.
“You interrupted my sleep,” he said. “Why should I spare you?”
The mouse was shaking, but he gathered enough courage to speak.
“Please forgive me. I may be small, but perhaps someday I can help you.”
For a moment, the lion stared at him.
Then he laughed.
“You? Help me?”
The mouse nodded.
The lion found the idea amusing. Still, he decided the little animal had learned its lesson.
“Very well. Go,” he said.
The mouse quickly slipped away.
“Thank you!” he called before disappearing into the grass.
The lion settled back beneath the tree and soon forgot about the whole incident.
A Few Days Later
Several days passed.
One morning, the lion was walking through the forest when he noticed a pleasant smell coming from the other side of the trees. He followed it without noticing a rope net hidden along the ground.
As soon as he stepped forward, the trap sprang shut.
The lion was caught.
He struggled fiercely.
He pulled at the ropes with his powerful legs. He tried biting through them. He pushed and twisted, but nothing worked.
The net only became tighter.
The lion roared as loudly as he could.
“Help!”
His voice carried across the forest.
But there was no one nearby.
The lion tried again.
Then, from somewhere in the distance, a familiar little voice called out.
“I heard a lion!”
The mouse followed the sound and soon discovered the lion trapped inside the net.
It was the same lion who had once spared his life.
The mouse ran toward him.
“What happened?” he asked.
“I have been caught in this net,” said the lion. “I have tried everything, but I cannot break free.”
The mouse looked carefully at the ropes.
“I think I can help.”
The lion looked down at him.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then the lion remembered the promise the mouse had made.
“Perhaps you really can,” he said.
The mouse immediately began chewing one of the ropes.
It was thick and difficult to cut.
He kept going.
Nibble by nibble, the fibers began to loosen.
The mouse moved to another rope and worked on that one too.
After a while, one rope snapped.
The lion pulled hard.
Another rope broke.
The opening in the net became larger.
Finally, with one strong push, the lion stepped out.
He was free.
The mouse sat nearby, tired but happy.
The lion lowered his head toward the little animal.
“I owe you my freedom,” he said.
The mouse smiled.
“And you once gave me mine.”
The lion remembered the day he had caught the mouse. He had thought that such a tiny creature could never be useful to him.
He now understood how wrong he had been.
“You were right,” the lion said. “I should never have judged you by your size.”
The mouse laughed.
“Everyone has something they can do.”
The lion nodded.
From that day on, the lion treated the smaller animals of the forest with greater respect. The mouse, meanwhile, never forgot the lion’s kindness.
They were very different in size, strength, and nature, but they had learned something important about one another.
